Sioux Falls Magical Mystery Tour

This is a delightful project, the kind where you hear the idea and you think, “why not wrap a bus with your artwork?” My design, The Sioux Falls Magical Mystery Tour, was selected by the City of Sioux Falls along with three other artists for Sioux Area Metro’s Art on the Move contest. I love the idea of celebrating and transforming the ordinary into works of art that transport you. This design came from thinking about Levitt at the Falls (a live music venue), what music does for us, and what summer feels like in Sioux Falls. I started with a giant yellow butterfly instead of a submarine and took it from there. The entire design has a visual rhythm like a 12-bar blues going around the bus. Divinity Roxx opened the 2025 Levitt season and said, “Sioux Falls is beautiful… Hold on, get ready for the ride, and always expect a miracle.” My background is in painting and stained glass. Both of these influences, especially contrast, color, and movement, are at work in this design.
